Originally from Tampa, Florida, Doechii is killing the rap game and fashion industry with her authentic lyrics, academic aesthetic and ability to dream big, even when you are unemployed.

The stars timing was in alignment as she told her YouTube fans in 2020 that she had been fired; which happened to be from mexican restaurant chain Chipotle. The ins and out were not discussed as she nonchalantly munches down on a bag of crisps, shrugs her shoulders and casually discusses her plan of action.

"I think I'm just gonna head down to bunch of studios tomorrow and see if they have any internships..." She says in thought, not knowing in the next few years that she would be signed to LA's hottest record label 'Top Dawg Entertainment' which houses Kendrick Lamar, SZA and other talented artists.

"I literally have nothing to lose." she blasely admits, and this is the type of Leo determination that has inspired fans across the globe (including me) to try and think positively about future careers and things we want to achieve. This video was a key moment to show her down to earth nature and that platonic manifestation can be possible in a small amount of time, don't we just love that for her?

The video titled 'I got Fired... Thank God" is still very much a part of her musical journey and is available to view on her Youtube profile which you can view here for the full scoop.

Five years later and Doechii has collected a Grammy for best rap album and the 3rd woman to hold such a prize after Ms Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. As she went to the stage holding her mothers hand, humbly crying and thanking God for being fired and for her sobriety, we may have liked her just a little bit more after that.

Already supported by king of disses Kendrick Lamar, fame is coming to this girl like this years Hurricane in Tampa Bay, big and in abundance.

Swamped In Style

Can we just take in that there is a name for her fashion-style trend? It's called work siren chic or something like that... ANYWAY, she has brought sweet canerows and beads back from the early 2000's and she's been eating it up like a free buffet honey, let me tell you.

elongated collars and neck ties (which I am already a fan of) are hers and hers alone. She has brought modern tailoring to the forefront and we should really thank her stylist, and no, it's not me.

Already an ambassador for legendary tailoring designer Thom Browne, Burberry and Haute couture house Schiaparelli, Doechii is being taken from runway to runway this Fashion Week.

Her iconic face tape has taken a backseat for this one and she has been captured beat and on theme for numerous events.

Doechii dramatically opened for Canadian Twins Dean & Dan fashion label DSquared2, at their A/W 25-26 Show in Paris this February.

Arriving in an army truck alongside 90s heart-throb Tyson, she confidently runs down the catwalk whilst money falls from her hands to her feet in a half corset jacket styled with an 'iconique' dip-hemmed top, denim hot pants, oversized jewelled belt and wire-wrapped heels.

She was serving major c*nt and representing the LGBTQ+ community with a Grace Jones type of edge, and a hyped finale performance with Miami rapper JT. She strutted back and fourth with the designers and South London's finest, Miss Naomi Campbell to celebrate 30 years of the label.

It truly was a celebration indeed to see the spiralling of this once fast-food worker make a name for herself, as she swims unapologetically through multiple awards and fashion shows. Not only is this a celebration to her progress, but a celebration to dark-skinned female artists, as this has been a way overdue appearance to our screens.

Not only has she changed the dynamic of females in rap, but she has changed the stigma of colourism within the female rap game and black music as a whole. She has been the face of preppy chic and is bringing tailored decorum back to our streets, I cannot thank her enough.

This swamp princess is one to continue watching and may she never lose her spark.

Amen, amen, amen.
